Computing Intent – Preparing Our Children for a Digital Future
At Green Park Community Primary School, our mission is to prepare our children for a rapidly evolving digital world. We believe that computing is far more than just learning to use a computer—it’s about mastering a language that shapes our future. We aim to nurture confidence and competence in computing so that every child becomes a true digital citizen. Our goal is for our pupils to dive into technology with enthusiasm, creativity, and a deep sense of responsibility. We want them to explore, experiment, and even embrace failure as a stepping stone to success. By encouraging critical thinking and independent problem solving, we aspire to foster future pioneers who are ready to make informed decisions about when and how to use technology. At Green Park, we emphasise that being a digital native means balancing technical skills with healthy, mindful practices, ensuring that technology enhances life without overwhelming it.
Computing Implementation – Bringing the Digital World to Life in the Classroom
Our carefully structured computing curriculum is designed to ensure that as our children progress through school, they know more, can do more, and remember more. Built around three key Golden Threads
- Information Technology
- Computer Science
- Digital Literacy & Online Safety
Our curriculum is delivered through the Purple Mash platform and enriched with engaging, hands-on activities. Lessons are sequenced and scaffolded so that every pupil can succeed, with project-based tasks in the later stages to allow children to showcase their skills and knowledge. In our classrooms, children are exposed to a variety of software, programmes, and equipment. They have access to class iPads, for which they are given responsibility to care—charging them, using them appropriately, and managing their digital footprint- with guidance and support. Our approach encourages children to apply their learning in different contexts and make meaningful connections to other areas of their education, preparing them to navigate the digital landscape with ease and confidence.
Computing Impact – Empowering Confident and Responsible Digital Citizens
The impact of our computing curriculum is evident in the way our children become confident, responsible users of technology who understand the balance between digital engagement and real-world interactions. They learn to harness the power of technology to solve problems, gather and analyse information, and communicate effectively—all while maintaining a healthy, mindful approach to their digital lives. Our pupils graduate with the skills to:
- Be inspired, motivated, and enthusiastic when using technology.
- Navigate the digital world safely and responsibly.
- Create and debug algorithms, demonstrating a deep understanding of computer science concepts.
- Collect, analyse, and present data using technology.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively using computer networks.
Through ongoing assessments and adaptive teaching practices, we ensure that every child is well-prepared for the challenges of the digital age. At Green Park Community Primary School, we are proud to see our children emerge as independent, competent digital citizens who know when to rely on technology and when traditional approaches are best, ensuring they are ready for the next stage of their educational journey and beyond.
