Term 3 News

Update: Year Two Term Three 2025
Year Two have started the new year with another busy term! It is wild to think that they are now a third of the way through the year already… so let’s have a look at what they have been up to after returning from a lovely, relaxing Christmas break:
Term Three began with the topic ‘Street Detectives’. The children have explored the local area and have thought about the changes that have occurred by comparing photographs and maps from the past and the present.
The children took part in a Victorians immersion day at the start of the topic, with some excellent costumes. The children got to experience some Victorian classroom practices and this made them appreciate modern schools even more! They began exploring what things were like for children and adults in the Victorian age and were introduced to some of the vocabulary they would be using over the topic.
In English this term, the children have learnt about fact files and narratives. They created their own informative fact files on Dover Castle, researching key facts and interesting stories to include in their writing, using the features to correctly lay-out their work. Later in the term, they read the story ‘In Every House, on Every Street’ and used this to create their own simple narratives, using the Talk4Writing approach.
In science, the children have been investigating materials and their properties. They began by sorting items by the material they are made from, before classifying using their properties. The children got to explore how materials can be shaped and changed in different ways and also looked at the concept of reusing and recycling to help protect the planet.
This term, the children visited Dover Transport Museum. After a brisk hike up the steps we arrived to explore the fascinating collection of classic and vintage vehicles they have on site. From trains and busses to cars and planes, the children were amazed to learn about the changes in transport even in recent years.
Overall, it’s been another brilliant term for Year Two, full of learning, creativity, and memorable experiences. The children have worked incredibly hard and have enjoyed every moment. We are all looking forward to Term Four and the ‘Movers and Shakers’ topic.
