Term 1 News

EYFS Term One 2024

The children in Palace Class have had a wonderful start to their school journey, looking at the fascinating world of “Creep, Crawl and Wriggle” as their first topic.

Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to:

In Communication, Language and Literacy, we have explored some amazing stories like The Hungry Caterpillar and The Bad-Tempered Ladybird. The children have worked on understanding, retelling, and sequencing these stories, helping them to begin identifying initial sounds and building early literacy skills.

For Physical Development, the children have taken part in racing games, balancing on climbing equipment, and working on fine motor skills with activities like threading.

Maths lessons have focused on counting objects and recognising numbers. The children have also enjoyed learning number songs. Snack time has become a hands-on experience for learning, as they practice counting in pennies to buy their fruit.

In Understanding the World, we had a fantastic visit from Jaws ‘n’ Claws, where the children had the opportunity to look at and even hold lots of different animals! As Halloween approached, we took a trip to the pumpkin patch to see how pumpkins grow.

Personal, Social, and Emotional Development has been all about settling into school routines, learning classroom rules, and understanding feelings. Through child-initiated play, the children are encouraged to share, play cooperatively, and make new friends, building a positive, supportive classroom environment.

In Expressive Arts and Design, the children have been busy exploring different media and materials. They’ve recreated sounds from their favourite stories using musical instruments, experimented with creating models and pictures, and learned about safely using art equipment.

Overall, Term 1 has been very exciting, the children have completed lots learning! We are incredibly proud of how the children have settled in. We’re looking forward to what Term 2 has in store!
