Year 6 have had an exciting start to the school year, looking at a variety of engaging topics.

Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to:

This term, we have explored the exciting culture and history of Mexico in our topic, "Hola Mexico." The children have learned about the geography and traditions of this fascinating country. They’ve delved into the significance of the Day of the Dead and lots more.

In science, Year 6 have been investigating the fascinating world of light theory. They’ve explored how light travels, how we see things, and how different materials can affect light. The children enjoyed carrying out experiments to test how light can be reflected and refracted, developing their understanding of this.

Our art lessons this term have been all about exploring colour theory. The children have been learning how to create tints, tones, and shades of colour and applying this knowledge to their creative projects. They’ve developed their skills in mixing and blending colours, producing beautiful artwork.

We also celebrated a special Mexico Day, where the children were immersed in Mexican traditions, art, and food. From making headwear, to enjoying traditional Mexican dishes, it was a day full of fun and cultural learning.

One of the main highlights of the term was our residential trip, where they have been able to build teamwork and resilience through a variety of outdoor activities.

In literacy, we’ve been reading the novel Holes by Louis Sachar, which has captivated the children’s imaginations. They’ve been developing their creative writing skills by writing their own setting descriptions. In addition, we read some of the Legend of the Cempasuchil, where the children created their own legends.

Overall, it’s been a fantastic first term for Year 6, full of learning, creativity, and memorable experiences. The children have worked incredibly hard and have enjoyed every moment. We are all looking forward to term 2.
