What an incredible term it has been in Year 5! As always, we’ve has a variety of exciting and challenging experiences that have truly sparked the curiosity of the children. We kicked off the term with a bang by diving into the awe-inspiring world of space. The children had the change to step inside the Wonder Dome, planetarium experience that took them on a journey through the universe. They were amazed by the stars, planets and galaxies we learned about, which sparked so many questions and creative ideas. To extend their learning, the children created amazing fact files on famous astronauts like Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Mae Jemison and Tim Peake. It was so inspiring to see them so engaged in the wonders of space!

Building on space exploration theme, the children has a fantastic time getting creative in art. They used coloured chalk to recreate parts of the universe, blending colours and experimenting with techniques to capture the beauty of space on paper. The results were stunning!

As we moved into the second half of the term, we shifted gears and explored history, with a focus on the fascinating Chinese Dynasty. The children embraced their role as historians, learning about the ancient Chinese culture, inventions and the incredible legacy of the dynasties. It was fantastic to see them research and present their findings.

In PE the classes focussed on gymnastics, where they learnt basic gymnastic movements, building strength, balance and coordination. The pupils worked on routines and had opportunities to practice different skills like balancing, rolling and jumping.

On Cultural Day, the children had the opportunity to bring in an item from home that represented their own culture. They had the time in class to discuss how we don’t all necessarily follow the same culture within our community. It was wonderful to celebrate the diversity of year 5! The class delved further into the rich culture of Thailand. They explored Thai music, dance, language and customs. Their man focus was looking at the Chiang Mai flower festival! It was a great day to help children appreciate diversity and broaden their understanding of global cultures.

Community was our focus for our Something Day this term. The children got involved in creating some wonderful posters to promote smoke-free places in Dover. They also helped tidy up our school and joined in on litter picking, making sure the school and the area around t stayed nice and clean. It was all about doing their bit to make the community a better place!

The year five pupils has an absolute blast at the Friendship Disco! It was a session filled with music, dancing and non-stop fun. The children were all excited to let loose and show off their best dance moves.
