PE Intent – What We Want for Your Child

At Green Park Community Primary School, we believe that physical activity is a cornerstone of a happy, healthy life. We aim to inspire every child to embrace the joy of movement, develop healthy, active lifestyles, and cultivate positive attitudes that extend well beyond their school years. We want PE to be exciting, motivating, and fun—creating lifelong memories and celebrating both personal and team achievements. At Green Park, we champion sporting success by recognising local and national role models, empowering our children to strive for excellence, whether as athletes, leaders, or even confident officials. Our PE curriculum is designed not only to enhance physical skills and literacy but also to promote social and emotional development, equipping our children with transferable life skills such as resilience, respect, teamwork, leadership, and determination. In keeping with our growth mind-set ethos and the core values of the School Games, we place the well-being of both body and mind at the heart of all we do, and we listen carefully to our children’s interests, providing them with a range of active experiences both in school and within our wider community.

PE Implementation – Bringing Movement to Life in the Classroom

Our PE curriculum is carefully structured to support our children’s physical development from the Early Years right through to Year 6, ensuring that they know more, do more, and remember more as they progress. We follow a rigorous, adaptive framework—supported by PE Hub—that is tailored to meet the individual needs of our pupils and aligned with the National Curriculum.

Our curriculum is built around three key Golden Threads:
Movement: Fostering agility, coordination, and motor skills through dynamic activities.
Collaboration and Competition: Encouraging teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy competitive spirit.
Strength and Flexibility: Developing physical fitness and resilience through varied exercise and play.

In the Early Years, physical development is a prime focus, with daily opportunities for children to enhance their gross and fine motor skills through engaging play and activities designed to build strength, coordination, and positional awareness. In Key Stages 1 and 2, our structured units in each sporting strand enable children to progress and build upon new skills. Our ‘skills rich’ curriculum offers a clear pathway for every child to reach their full potential in sport. Lessons are interactive and practical, offering opportunities for creative, competitive, and cooperative play both in individual settings and team challenges. Our facilities and carefully selected PE equipment enhance the learning experience, while extra-curricular activities, sports festivals, and inter-school competitions—developed in partnership with our local School Sports Partnership—further enrich our children’s opportunities to be active.

PE Impact – The Lasting Benefits for Our Children

At Green Park, PE, school sport, and physical activity are woven into the very fabric of daily life. Our holistic approach means that every child comes to understand that physical education is key to developing many transferable life skills essential for their future. As a result of our PE curriculum, our children:
• Enjoy and experience success in sport while having fun.
• Adopt healthy, active lifestyles and develop positive habits that will benefit them for life.
• Engage at their own pace in sports, embracing both individual progress and team achievements.
• Experience positive and healthy competition, learning valuable lessons in resilience and sportsmanship.
• Develop excellent sporting attitudes that inspire them to participate in extra-curricular activities and build community links.
• Thrive as part of collaborative teams, taking pride in their contributions and achievements.

We are immensely proud of our children’s progress in PE, as their development in physical skills, teamwork, and personal discipline leads to excellent attainment outcomes. Through ongoing observation and formative assessments, we ensure that each child’s journey in physical education is continually challenged and celebrated. At Green Park Community Primary School, our PE curriculum not only develops strong bodies but also builds confident, resilient individuals ready to embrace all the challenges of life.
