Term 2
Year 4 Term 2 Overview: Electricity, Digestion and Festive Fun
Term 2 has been full of exciting and hands-on learning experiences for Year 4! From exploring the fascinating world of electricity and digestion in Science to developing new skills in both cricket and swimming, the children have been actively engaged in their learning. This term has also been filled with memorable events, as children took part in festive activities and supported their younger peers. Here's a roundup of the term's highlights:
Science: Electricity and Digestion
Year 4's Science lessons have been both engaging and informative. Students first explored the topic of electricity, learning about electrical circuits, components like bulbs, batteries, and wires, and how to safely handle electrical materials. They also discovered how electricity is used in everyday life, leading to fascinating class discussions and experiments.
The class then moved on to the process of digestion, where they learned about the journey food takes through the body and the important organs involved in digestion. One particularly memorable lesson had the children experimenting with a fun and educational activity—making poo! This hands-on experiment helped illustrate the digestive process in a light-hearted yet informative way, ensuring the children understood the complex biology behind digestion.
Physical Education: Cricket and Swimming
This term, Year 4 had the chance to focus on different physical activities, both of which helped develop teamwork, coordination, and individual skills.
-
Cricket Skills: One of the Year 4 classes worked with a specialist cricket coach, learning new techniques and skills in batting, bowling, and fielding. The students enjoyed developing their understanding of the game and had a great time applying their skills in friendly matches.
-
Swimming: The other class focused on improving their swimming abilities. Through a series of lessons, the children worked on their technique, building confidence in the water and improving their strokes. Whether they were learning to float, mastering breathing techniques, or perfecting their front crawl, the children made excellent progress as swimmers.
Trips and Events
Term 2 also featured several exciting outings and performances that enriched the children's school experience.
-
Pantomime Visit: Year 4 had the joy of attending a festive pantomime performance, where they were treated to a fun and entertaining show full of laughter, music, and magic. It was a wonderful way to get into the Christmas spirit!
-
Christmas Concert: The children participated in the school’s Christmas concert, where they joined in with the celebration of the season. It was an afternoon full of festive cheer.
-
EYFS Nativity: Year 4 also had the pleasure of watching the EYFS Nativity, a heart-warming performance by the younger students. It was a lovely way to see the children of the school come together and celebrate the true meaning of Christmas.
We are incredibly proud of Year 4's enthusiasm and hard work this term and can't wait to see what they achieve in the new year!
